Proposal reminiscing

Two years ago today, Matt proposed to me. We had just gotten back from California where he graduated boot camp, and let me tell you, I had no idea what he was planning. He arranged an entire surprise proposal from boot camp, through letters to his father, brother, and his wife. He had his brother Michael hang outside one of the windows, and take pictures of the entire thing.
I was so completely surprised, and amazed, and my heart was so full. Even after he asked to take a walk and talk about something, all that was going through my mind was "Oh he looks so handsome in his blues oh I'm so happy I get to hold his hand again and give him schmooches and I couldn't be happier." Little did I know that he was about to make me even happier. Once he got down on one knee, and I reailzed what he was doing, I don't think I gave Matt the chance to actually say the words
"will you marry me" out before I said yes, nodding and crying and laughing and smiling and ecstatic.

As it happened, Matt's parents had planned a welcome home party, which quickly turned into a engagement party. My family was there, and it was such an amazing feeling to walk into a house and see how many people were happy for us. Also note that I don't do well in the sun, which is why I'm so red. I don't normally look like a tomato, but that's what a few days in the California sun will do to a gal.   We were greeted by both sets of parents, and hugs and tears and congratulations went around. It was official: I was going to become an official Hertzog, and I was going to be officially Auntie Haley.

That winter, we tied the knot in a small, private ceremony at my grandparent's house in Edmonds, with a view of Puget Sound. It was beautiful and small and perfect for us. It was just family, and my maid of honor, Tricia - who is practically family. It was very fancy, but laid back, with a little bit of our families questionable humor and wit:

I'm so glad that two years ago, today, Matt proposed to me. He made me the happiest, luckiest, most blessed girl on the planet. And, he continues to do so every day.
